Tweet This

Next week we will be starting a new sermon series called “Tweet This!”. Obviously this series is based on the popular social networking program called Twitter. We will be taking a look at some characters in the Bible that will encourage your walk with Christ. Some of these characters you might know of and some you might not.

This will be an interactive sermon series so in case you don’t have a Twitter account you probably should get one. (Link to set up a Twitter account) It is going to be a blast as we take a look at some great stories in God’s Word. Join us at C3 Church on Sundays and on Twitter as we “Tweet This!”

Micro Car Crashes

I was talking with the guys at lunch about the article I read about “micro” car, frontal crashes with larger cars that the Insurance Institute for Highway Saftey conducted and their results. To sum it all up, you can’t deny the laws of physics. No matter how strong you make the passenger compartment or how many airbags you put into the micro cars it can’t overcome sheer mass of crashing into something bigger. So here are the pics from the 40mph frontal crash tests of the Smart For-Two, Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris.

The mid-size cars suffered little or no damage to their passenger compartments. There is truly no substitute for size and mass when it comes to safety in automobile accidents.

Just something to think about.

A New Way To Tell An Old Story

“A new way to tell an old story.” Kind of the reason we do church the way we do, but this is not the subject of this blog. I watched a brand new television show tonight and was really surprised. The name of the show is “Kings” on NBC. Kings is a modern new way of telling the story of King David and King Saul in the Bible. These are a few of the characters: King Saul- Silas, David- David Shepherd, The prophet Samuel- Reverend Samuels just to name a few. In fact without giving too much away, David Shepherd faces off against a tank that is known as Goliath and ends up taking it out. The show was very good and an ingenious way to tell the story in a modern relevant way. Everyone should definitely check it out. Crazy concept, “a new way to tell an old story,” I like it!

Rolls Royce = Art

I know I wrote a car blog not long ago but I’m writing another one. One reason to write another car blog is that I just need to get my mind off of all of the craziness and pressures of our world and our country right now. One of the ways I wind down and relax is to think about another passion in my life beside God, wife, family and church. The other passion in my life are automobiles. I love many different types of automobiles. In fact a good designed, incredible looking car is like a fine piece of art too me. Rolls Royce is one of the finest car companies in the world and in my estimation they don’t just create cars, but they create works of art. I know, not everyone will agree with me but I love the way a Rolls Royce looks. The lines, the proportions and craftsmanship are exceptional. I love many different cars but Rolls Royces are some of my favorites. Since I’m a pastor, probably the closest I will ever get to a Rolls Royce is to look at photos and that’s ok. So join with me as I admire a few of my faves in the world of automobiles, the Roll Royce Phantom, Phantom Drophead Coupe and Phantom Coupe.

Ford Is Back

As most everyone knows I love cars. I have a car blog that I never can keep up with because there are more pressing things in my life then keeping up with a car blog; it’s hard enough to keep one blog current. So just one quick car blog post in the midst of all my serious blogs that I normally post.

I have always been a Ford man even though my main vehicle right now is not a Ford. I have always had a special place in my heart for Fords so I have been watching the dismal American auto industry, hoping that my preferred American automaker will be able to weather the storm. Ford is actually the most viable American automaker right now but it’s not over so I hope they make it. If the new products are any indication Ford actually has a fighting chance. So here is Ford’s new flagship car. The 2010 Ford Taurus is unbelievable. The top of the line Ford Taurus, SHO, 0-60 in 4.8sec. That’s BMW 5 Series territory! Good looking too. Welcome back Ford!

Looking Back Or Moving Forward?
January 21, 2009, 11:59 am

When does looking back at the past become stuck in a rut? When does being nostalgic become an unhealthy obsession? When does longing for the “good ole’ days” become romanticizing situations that at the time were not necessarily good or good for you?

It’s funny how we have a tendency to look back at things and imagine they were better than what they were. I am finding that with all of the new social networks such as MySpace and Facebook and others like it lend themselves to people getting caught up in “the way things were” while hindering people from living in the present and moving forward.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to be negative and down on being nostalgic and looking back at where you’ve been in light of where you are going. I love Facebook and being able to catch up with old friends and reconnect and relive some moments in time. In fact I found an old friend from high school who had a video of me in marching band while I was a drum-major and he posted it on Facebook then I in turn posted on my blog. It was fun to look back and reminisce a little. I think the danger is when you spend a lot of time looking back and longing for what you think were the “good ole’ days” when God is trying to move you forward in to today. Wanting what you “had” and not focusing on what you “have” is the danger of looking back too much.

Some of you might totally disagree but I have really learned the lesson about seasons of life. I believe that God gives us seasons in our lives and even puts people in our lives during those seasons to encourage, challenge and teach us many things. I believe most of the time, yes most, not all of the time, those people in that particular season are just a part of our lives for that season. That doesn’t mean that they become your enemy or stop becoming your friend. It just means that their season of influence in your life, whether good or bad, is over and it’s time to move forward into another season. It’s because of this concept I believe that a person can only have a few life-long friends that transcend the seasons of life. That is a whole other blog, but if you have a few of those kinds of friends that God has blessed you with then you really have a treasure.

Anyway, to get back on task I believe that looking back on where you’ve been and what you have come through is vital and healthy. After all how can one know where they are going if they don’t know where they have come from? Although, I believe it is detrimental to look back with an unhealthy preoccupation of what was, instead of what’s now. God is always moving you forward in to a new area of your life where He is teaching you new things and molding you into the person you are to be. I don’t think that process is ever done and many times it isn’t an easy one. What makes that process harder is for us to keep looking backwards while Christ is moving us forward.

So in conclusion, look back and be nostalgic but don’t camp there. Just take brief glances always with the mindset of remembering what God taught you back then in situations and through people in order to get you where you are now. Moving forward is always easiest when you are actually facing that way.
