Wow, Where Have All The Blogs Gone?

I don’t blog as much anymore but I am not alone. It has been 15 days since my last blog but I believe that I along with everyone else has been hit by a hurricane that has wiped out our blogging. I think that hurricane’s name is “Twitter”. We still are blogging but it is now done in 150 characters or less. I believe it’s not because we don’t want to blog and share our thoughts. I just think it’s easier and faster to jot down a quick blurb about our lives every so often during the day. I also think it’s more spontaneous than blogging. When you blog you really have to organize thoughts and then put them in writing. With Twitter all you have to do is to post what you are thinking at the moment. No thinking about it, no organization required. We are also living in such a fast paced, quick world that our free time is less and less so tweeting is far more preferrable.

So as much as I tweet, I hope that blogging doesn’t go away completely. I love them both. Although I might not blog as much, I tweet all the time. So I promise to try to find time to blog a little more, but in the meantime follow me on Twitter. My Twitter ID is darrellloper. So see you on Twitter and on every once in a while on WordPress. So, where have all the blogs gone?

Micro Car Crashes

I was talking with the guys at lunch about the article I read about “micro” car, frontal crashes with larger cars that the Insurance Institute for Highway Saftey conducted and their results. To sum it all up, you can’t deny the laws of physics. No matter how strong you make the passenger compartment or how many airbags you put into the micro cars it can’t overcome sheer mass of crashing into something bigger. So here are the pics from the 40mph frontal crash tests of the Smart For-Two, Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris.

The mid-size cars suffered little or no damage to their passenger compartments. There is truly no substitute for size and mass when it comes to safety in automobile accidents.

Just something to think about.

iPhone Update 2.0

As most everyone knows today the new iPhone went on sale. Also the new software update for existing iPhones, 2.0, was available for iPhone owners to download as well. Since I already got caught in the first round of iPhone craziness last year I decided I did not need the new 3G super fast iPhone. I knew that almost every feature of the new iPhone would be mine free of charge except for the 3G network and the GPS feature, which for me are not deal breakers.

Last year Apple had some glitches with hundreds of thousands phones being activated at the same time. You would think that Apple would learn lessons from last year’s roll out. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my iPhone but what went down today was nothing less then the powers that be at Apple not thinking this thing through. Today was a total melt down with people trying to activate their iPhones.

All new iPhones and all existing iPhone updates were routed to an activation process at the online iTunes store. This would have been ok had iTunes’ servers been able to handle the extreme volume of new activations plus the millions of existing owners downloading new software. As a result of iTunes servers not being able to handle the volume, thousands of people were left with partially updated iPhones that would not work. Unfortunately I was one of those thousands. My phone was offline for approximately 4 hours but I am back in business now. The updates are incredible but it was definitely a pain in the butt getting my phone back to operational status.

Customer service is not what it used to be and when you make a promise, you need to deliver the goods. I guess I got the goods, but not in a timely fashion, which kind of leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth. Anyway I’m glad everything works and I still LOVE my iPhone.

No Computer Pt. 2

Well the computer is back in the shop for the same problem in less than three weeks. So I am blogging from my iPhone. I’ll just say this, when technology works, it’s great. But when it doesn’t, it stinks! At least my iPhone is working (for now). Here’s to portable blogging. So long from the technology challenged.

iPhone

Well, while I was in Texas I lost my cell phone. For those of you who do not know I am a gadget kind of guy. I really wanted an iPhone when they first came out a few weeks ago but had resigned to wait until Christmas time to get one. Well then I lost my motorola razor in Texas last week. Now some of you might think that I lost my phone on purpose but I assure you that is not the case. I was happy with my razor for a little while longer. You know what happened next. Yesterday I bought an iPhone. This phone is absolutely incredible it does not even come with a manual. I can not remember how many pages my moto razor manual had in it, but it was a lot. It is so intuitive and easy to use Apple does not give you a manual they just tell you to play with it. Now that is confidence in your product. The leap in technology is awesome and I am already a fan. I would definitely recommend the iPhone to anyone who is in the market for a new phone. It’s hard to believe that the coolest phone on the market just a few years ago is now a dinosaur.
