Diversity at C3 Church

One thing that I love about C3 Church that I don’t think that I have ever really talked about on my blog is the diversity that God has blessed us with. When I say diversity you might think I am only talking about race but you would be mistaken. Race is only one aspect of the diversity found at C3 Church. We not only have diversity in race but diversity in age. We have diversity in socio-economic levels. We have diversity in religious denominations or no religious affiliation at all. God has blessed C3 with just an incredible melting pot of different people with one desire to “love God and love others!”

I really believe that C3 church is truly a microcosm of Orlando. Orlando is a very diverse metropolitan area where many different races and cultures combine. I think that every church should reflect their culture through diversity. If you take an honest look at your church congregation and 98 percent of your congregation is representing only one race or culture then I think you are missing the boat. In fact Orange county is now so diverse that minorities are now the majority of the population in our county. C3 Church is in fact very close in mirroring this trend in the Central Florida area. It is truly a blessing to see our racial diversity at C3 Church.

I also heard it said that as we transitioned C3 Church to a more contemporary model that the older generations would not come. Well to be honest with you that could not be a more incorrect statement. Yes we had a lot of “churched” senior adults move to other churches in our transition but God has brought in a lot of older un-churched folks who have found Christ and some older Christ-followers that love others so much that they enjoy C3 Church and the work that is being done. So diversity in age, young and old!

We have people that speak English and second languages such as Spanish, French, German, Korean and the list goes on and on which represents a diversity of cultures. We also have Catholics, Methodist, Pentecostals, Baptists, Presbyterians, non-denominational, etc. and most of all un-churched religious backgrounds. Diversity is part of C3 Church.

I am so proud how God has given C3 Church the platform and ability to speak the truth of the love of Christ not only to a select few but to ALL people here in Orlando. Loving God and loving others, that’s what it’s about at C3! Love Wins!

A Great Finish!

Hey everyone. We had a great finish to the Mosaic message series at C3 Church. We had over thirty more people sign up for Community Groups and more people signed up for our “behind the scenes” look at C3 Church called Discovering C3 or DC3 for short. We are literally busting out of the seams as a majority of our members are plugging into Community Groups this spring.

It is such a privilege and honor to be part of such a great movement of God here in East Orlando. It is incredible to lead the church as the Small Groups Pastor as we expand our small groups ministry. What will be even more exciting is to see how God is going to change peoples’ lives as they allow those “next level influencers” to impact their lives. Thank you C3 for listening to God and applying what we have learned in the Mosaic series. It is incredible to be a part of a true mosaic of lives at C3 Church!

Echoes Of My Past

Alright boys and girls I’ve got to set this one up. This is totally a personal blog about me today. Sorry, I usually do not focus on myself but this one I just got to share with you guys. I graduated high school in 1987.  Twenty one years ago. Back then band was the biggest part of my life. Well, I have had a friend (fellow bandmember) contact me through facebook. I haven’t heard from anyone back in those days for literally 21 years. My friend has posted a youtube video of the marching band show, which was a James Bond 007 theme back in 1987. I was the senior drum-major conducting the band (skinny guy, in white on the left). I was on the drum-major box for almost the whole show. The video is from 1987 so the quality is horrible and it is ten minutes long. Once you get through the very beginning you might want to fast forward to the end (7:55 into the video) because that, of course is the best part. On the last song, “For Your Eyes Only” we had a girl singing with us which was totally “out of the box” for a high school marching band. Anyway, I hope you enjoy as I walk down memory lane.

9/11, A Day To Remember

I just wanted to take a few moments just like most people on this day to remember all of those whose lives were affected in some way by the tragic events that took place seven years ago today. I would like to honor the memory of all of those that died on this day and the days following as a result of what took place on this day. The needless loss of those that were so close to us but that are now so far away is painful but something we must live with as individuals and as a country. Whether it was a family member, friend, co-worker, family of friends or a friend of a friend, I believe everyone was touched in some way by the events on that fateful day seven years ago.

It is so strange but I, just like everyone, can remember where they were and what they were doing on that morning seven years ago. It is like one moment in time that just stands still and never moves. It is like a photograph of a small piece of our history.

So I would love to say to family and friends of everyone who lost someone on this day seven years ago, I am so sorry and I share your loss. Just like so many that felt the effects of 9/11, I lost a dear friend as a result of this day’s events seven years ago today. My friend Craig who passed away in an automobile accident on 9/12 because he could not fly to the destination because of grounded flights, I would consider a victim of the events of 9/11. The only way we can honor those who lost their lives as a result of such heinous acts, is to live our lives to the full as Americans and never forget our loved ones and never forget what happened on this day seven years ago.

It’s ok to remember the pain because if you can’t feel pain then you really can’t be alive. The pain of this day runs deep but our love for each other and this awesome country should run much more deep. So on this fateful day in September seven years ago we were dealt a hard and severe blow to our comfort and security that we feel as Americans, but it woke us up to what a cruel and dangerous world we live in and what we must do to protect ourselves and our way of life. So our loved ones did not die in vain but their sacrifice has shown us how precious life is and how blessed we are to live in a free, democratic society that stands for truth and justice. So I will never forget this day as long as I live. September 11, 2001, a day to remember everything good about living a free life with those we love and to honor those who are no longer with us today but still live that free life with us in our memories and in our hearts. 9/11, a day to remember!

I just wanted to post a couple of pictures of my good friend Bryan getting baptized by yours truly. I’ve known Bryan for years and of course his lovely wife Gina. It’s really cool when you can be a part of something so significant in your friend’s life. Oh yeah, I wanted to make sure he got all the way under as evidenced by the second picture. 🙂 Congratulations Bryan and to all the C3’ers that got baptized on Wednesday night. C3 Rocks!

The Perfect Day

Today was one of those incredibly perfect days. It wasn’t perfect because of the weather or where we were at. It was a perfect day because we got to spend it with some of the closest friends we have. These are friends that you would walk to hell and back with because God has given us a bond in ministry, vision and purpose. When God puts those kind of friends in your life, hold on to them and cherish them. Andrea and I have had the privilege to find out which friends were only acquaintances that were in our lives for just a season and who are true life-time friends who will be around for many years to come.

I truly define moments by who I spend them with not necessarily where I am at. So today was perfect not because I was at the beach or that the weather was great. It was perfect because of who we spent the day with, friends who are true and real for a lifetime.
